Artist Alberto Santangela replicated a panel of the north doors of the Florence Baptistry on this alabaster plate. What is the Florence Baptistry, you might ask? It is a VERY old Roman building, the exact origins are unknown but it became the Church where the poet Dante, as well as the notorious Medici family were baptized. Its East side bronze doors were once proclaimed the “Gates of Paradise” by Michelangelo, and as he was a renowned critic with a pretty arrogant attitude (he once sent quite an insulting letter to the Renaissance master Da Vinci himself) I think the compliment is worth noting. This vintage item is a gorgeous sculptural centerpiece with a nuance of mystery and story worthy of the Christmas story it depicts. Comes to you in original box with all paperwork including Certificate of Authenticity.
